Puppy Class
The Spence K9 Puppy Class is a 7-week program consisting of an initial informational consultation and six 1-hour private lessons over the following weeks. This class covers potty training, crate training, general manners, and basic obedience. The puppy class is only for puppies under 5 months old.
Informational Session
The initial session of our puppy class is where we get to meet you and your puppy and go over everything you will need to know to set your puppy up for success with training. We have created our own puppy book that goes over the most important aspects of bringing a new puppy home. This session typically lasts about an hour and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding training, as well as inform us of anything you have already noticed with your puppy that you would like to work on during the following sessions.
What's Covered?
Potty & Crate Training
We figured out the key to potty training so that you don't have to. We will guide you step-by-step on the easiest way to get potty training started successfully and customize the plan with you based on your schedule.
Just like potty training, crate training is usually dreaded by new puppy owners. We will solve that issue too.
Socialization
This is a big one. Proper socialization is so important for puppies, because this is what their demeaner towards their life as a whole is based off of. We will cover everything you will need to know for exposing your puppy to all the new things they may encounter in the world to help prevent fear, anxiety, and aggression as they develop.
Manners
Everyone has their own opinions on what a well-behaved dog consists of, and at Spence K9 our standards are high. We want your puppy to end up being one of those dogs that other people pass by and say, "wow, I wish my dog behaved that well." Which is why we cover manners in our puppy book. Some of the manners covered include mouthing & biting, jumping, entering and exiting the kennel or doors, taking treats nicely, etc.
Basic Obedience
Young puppies are like sponges. The younger they are, the better it is to teach them good habits. If all they are ever taught is good behavior, then they are much less likely to start offering bad behavior. The basic commands that we cover during the class are sit, down, stay, wait, name, leave it, come, place, and leash walking.
